BASIC INFORMATION ON STAY IN POLAND
WEATHER
November in Poland is usually cold, rainy and windy. Temperatures fall between 0 and +5 ºC, although either +15 or -10 is possible. One of the possible ideas is to check the forecast few days before the arrival to Poland at the website of Polish meteorological institute here.
MONEY
An official currency in Poland is zloty (abbr. to zl or PLN). Normally, you cannot pay in euro or dollars. You can exchange your money at banks (worse rates, more time-consuming) or at numerous exchange offices (quick, better rates) distributed widely all around the city-centre. Rates are approximately 1 € = 4 PLN, 1$ = 3 PLN these days. In a still growing number of places in Poland you can pay using a credit card of any of the world-known brands. Virtually all hotels offer that opportunity, however not every single restaurant has a credit-card payment option.
WHERE TO COME TO POLAND
As Lublin does not have its own airport yet, you will have to transfer from a plane to a train or a bus. The best and most frequent are the connections between Lublin and Warsaw, then Cracow, Rzeszow and Katowice. Below you will find some hints.
FROM AN AIRPORT TO RAILWAY OR BUS STATION
Obviously the easiest way to get to a railway or bus station is to take a taxi. They are not very expensive, you will pay on average 1.50 – 2.00 zl per kilometre. In case of particular cities it may make 20-50 zl, depending on a combination of distance and time needed to get there (traffic). For further details on distance, please see enclosed city-plans (click on the name of the chosen city below). We recommend either to book taxis at special taxi-desks at the airport or to use taxis marked with any phone number – it indicates they belong to a radio-taxi company and offer regular prices. It is not recommended to use an ‘opportunity’ taxi offered by drivers walking within arrivals area.
Another option is to use a bus or special train connecting airport and chosen station.
In Warsaw it takes about 30-60 minutes to get from the airport to the station by bus, depending on the traffic. There is a direct bus connection with a central railway station (bus number 175). Tickets are usually sold in small kiosks on the airport, sometimes bus-drivers sell them with a small charge.
In Cracow there exists a special train connection between the airport and the central railway station. It needs about 15 minutes to get there at a reasonable cost of 8 zl and ticket are sold on-board.
In Rzeszow you can take a bus number 2 or 14. Tickets are usually sold in small kiosks on the airport, sometimes bus-drivers sell them with a small charge.
In Katowice a special bus connecting the airport vwith the city-centre is offered at a price of 20 zl. For details see here.
RAILWAYS
Taking a train to Lublin is a good choice. Trains in Poland are relatively safe means of transportation, especially when you are not travelling alone in a compartment. It’s better to choose compartments, where a few people already sit.
Prices depend to a large extent on the kind of train you choose. The journey on the same route may cost 50 or 150 zl, so be careful while choosing a train. All train connections may be found on an official website of Polish State Railways – prices may be checked with the use of a button ‘Fares’ located in the lower part of the website. Be also aware of the route offered – it happens quite often that a connection with a need of a transfer is offered, while direct may easily be chosen. When searching on the website, please use Polish spelling, so ‘Warszawa’, not ‘Warsaw’ or ‘Krakow’, not ‘Cracow’.
In case you check train schedule early, we recommend checking it again some time before your journey to Poland. Schedules use to change mid-year and sometimes it may significantly influence your choice. In general, there is no need to book tickets much before the journey. You can easily buy them on the railway station just before the journey. In case you hardly managed to catch the train, in IC and EC trains you can buy tickets on the train (and pay with a credit card, if you are willing to do so).
BUSES
If you prefer to take a bus, you may take any of the two basic options. The first is a regular state bus and the other is a small private bus. State buses tend to be much slower and significantly more expensive than the private ones. For instance, Warsaw–Lublin state bus needs 3.30 hours to reach the destination and costs about 35 zl, while private one needs 2.15 hours and costs 25 zl. Regular connections with Lublin are offered by private buses from all four cities described here, but Warsaw–Lublin and Cracow–Lublin are most frequent.

Tickets for state buses may be bought in bus stations; in private buses the driver sells the tickets, also when booked in advance. Buses depart usually from locations close to railway stations – for details see enclosed city-plans (click on the name of the chosen city above).
IN LUBLIN
The easiest way to get to your hotel is to use a taxi. Just outside the railway station there is a taxi-stop you can safely use. As all the hotels on the enclosed city-plan and the railway station are located not far away from the city centre, the price of the drive should not exceed 15 zl (during the day) and 25 zl (between 22 and 6). In case you come by bus, please ask the bus-driver to show you where a taxi stop is (the Polish understand the word ‘taxi’).
